The electricity sockets in the UK conduct 230 volts and take an input with 3 flat pins, while USA sockets conduct 120 volts take inputs with which you're already familiar.

There's an on/off switch by each UK socket.

First thing you'll need is an adapter:

Make sure it's a U.S.A. to UK adapter

You can also get a universal to UK adapter

Most laptops, cell phones, and camera chargers can convert the voltage automatically, which means you can plug them in with the adapter directly into the socket. You can check the input volatge capacity on your device easily.

If you're taking several devices with built in converters, consider taking a multi-plug with you.

For devices that don't automatically convert the voltage (e.g. flat irons & hair dryers), you'll need a converter. Although I must specify, you will most likely burn out USA flat irons and hair dryers even with a converter. I have never met a small appliance such as these that has survived.

Walmart sells converter & adapter sets.

I recommend you find a way to style your hair that doesn't require a hair dryer or flat iron. If you can't live without these appliances, I recommend you purchase one in the U.K.
